- Led the initiative to implement a literacy framework by collaborating with teachers to increase their knowledge on the best practices of early childhood literacy and served as the literacy coordinator by observing and teaching lessons, building classroom libraries, facilitating book clubs, leading peer learning labs, providing professional development and norming sessions, supporting the administration of Reading Assessments, creating a guided reading room, and organizing the visits of international consultants Kathy Collins and Carrie Ekey.
- Served as an instructional leader of teachers using the Marzano teacher growth model framework, participated in teacher goal setting conferences and self-evaluation, and used the Marshall feedback method by implementing informal and formal observations and learning walks to improve teacher practice and increase student learning.
- Collaborated with the IB PYP coordinator, Literacy Specialist 3-5, and teachers on aligning reading and writing units with PYP units for a more integrated and trans-disciplinary approach.
- Supported a social and emotional learning environment and the implementation of the Four Zones of Regulation, while reinforcing the IB K-5 PYP learner profile attributes to create a positive school culture.
- Created systems of data collection in both reading and writing, both quantitative and qualitative, to analyze school wide, grade level, and individual student growth and led data conversations with teachers.
- Led implementation of student goal setting conferences and rethinking of student led conferences/portfolios with teachers, parents, and students to increase student led learning and empowerment.
- Provided supervision and monthly professional development for all instructional assistants PreK-5 on play, social and emotional best practices, classroom management, differentiation, and literacy conferences.
- Collaborated with the administrative team weekly on different issues concerning professional development, school culture, school systems, safety, budget, and effective leadership practices.
- Helped support the initiative of inclusion by working with students, teachers, and parents on daily interactions of modifications and accommodations and in meetings regarding students with special needs.
- Created and participated in “Learning Workshop” innovative webinars for parents to help promote home connection on various topics.
- Facilitated a new teacher mentor group where we met each month to discuss issues regarding transition.
- Collaborated with school counselor to create systems of positive interactions on the playground, cafeteria, and buses as well as daily interactions of kindness between each other, a key to school culture.
- Led an Enrichment book club for third graders who were identified as talented and gifted to enrich their literacy experience but also to increase their social and emotional skills.
- Led Literacy Week which included a book fair, book drive for new lending library, all school read aloud time, favorite character dress up, games, buddy reading, parent speaker, and guest readers.
- In collaboration with 2nd/4th/and 5th grade students, we led a service learning initiative call the “Summer Reading to Give” program where students PreK-5 students read over the summer to earn books for children on the coast affected by the earthquake and went to the coast to deliver these books to over 107 students.
- Served on multiple committees including the Parent/Board Relations Committee regarding parent participation and the Accreditation Committee regarding teacher evaluation.
- Collaborated with administrators in the interviewing and hiring process of many new faculty and staff.
- Communicated effectively with parents on discipline and behavior issues.
- Supervised facilities and managed and solved problems regarding playgrounds, cafeteria, teacher substitution, and transportation.
- Collaborated closely with literacy specialist to create a reading support intervention program using the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Leveled Intervention kits for students significantly below grade level.
- Created a “no homework policy” where students are invited to explore areas of passion and share inspirational projects and take books at their “just right” level home in their Read Every Day (R.E.D) bags each day.
- Worked with the community bookstore, One Institute, and students to create the first public lending library in Ecuador.
- Worked with the high school Associate Principal to create a program called, “Cougar Buddies” where students and teachers from different grade levels across the school connected and learned together through different service learning and other projects to increase a positive school culture.
